+ Day 1 - Windhoek | Daan Viljoen Lodge
Windhoek

Daan Viljoen Nature Reserve, Namibia’s smallest game park spanning just 4000 hectares, is conveniently located within 25 kilometres of the capital of Windhoek, offering the ideal stopover for travellers looking to enjoy a bush experience within close proximity to the city. Visitors can look forward to spotting an abundance of highland wildlife and birds.


Day Itinerary

When you arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport you are met by the car rental company representative who transfers you to Windhoek. Upon arrival at the car rental the friendly rental agent then takes you through the car rental contract as well as explain all the rental conditions. You are then conducted a thorough demonstration of the vehicle before you depart to your lodge situated 20km west of Windhoek. The lodge, on the outskirts of Windhoek, is a birding paradise with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

+ Day 2 - Erongo | Ondudu Safari Lodge

The Erongo Mountain Range, stretching across the plains between the towns of Omaruru and Karibib, is home to a remarkably rich natural heritage as well as over 200 different bird species.


Day Itinerary

This morning after breakfast, you depart to the central region of Namibia characterised by it’s granite landscape.
You can enjoy an excursion to Paula’s Cave to view the rock art or visit a traditional San village. This is one of the prime birding locations in the country, home to rich birdlife, with over 260 local species including the Damara Red-billed Hornbill, Hartlaub’s Spurfowl, the Rosy-faced Lovebird and the White-backed Vulture. So make sure to keep the binoculars at hand!

+ Day 3 - Walvis Bay | Lagoon Lodge
Walvis Bay

Nestled along the Atlantic Coastline and just 30 km south of Swakopmund lies Walvis Bay, known for its natural lagoon with it’s abundance of bird-species as well as the the expansive green and pink salt pans dotted with flocks of flamingos and pelicans.

Today you depart for the Atlantic coastline passing through the historic town of Swakopmund on-route to Walvis Bay; the Walvis Bay Lagoon is a recognized Wetland of international importance.

Walvis Wetlands Birding – Half Day Tour
Possible sightings include over 150 species of bird that have been recorded in this region. Intra-African migrants make up the majority of these birds, namely the two flamingo species, Chestnut-banded Plovers, Pied Avocets, Cape Teals and Black-necked Grebes. European and northern Siberian migrants travel between 10 000 and 14 000 kilometres to reach Walvis Bay each year. These long-distance travellers consist of Curlew Sandpipers, Sanderlings, Grey Plovers, Ruddy Turnstones, Little Stints and Knots. Other shore birds that visit Walvis Bay are Palaearctic terns, consisting of Common, Sandwich, Arctic and Black Terns.
Resident birds are less numerous but no less important, for instance the huge Great White Pelicans, Caspian Terns, Damara Terns, Great Crested Grebes and Cape Cormorants. Red Data (endangered) birds include the Swift, Caspian and Damara Terns, Hartlaub’s Gulls, Great Crested and Black-necked Grebes, the Chestnut-banded Plovers and the flamingos. You can see the odd Southern Pale Chanting Goshawk and even a Rock Kestrel a few hundred metres inland. If you’re a serious ticker, you might get lucky further inland and see Namibia’s only true endemic bird, the Dune Lark.

+ Day 5 - Spitzkoppe | Spitzkoppen Lodge

Situated about two hours’ drive from Swakopmund, the Spitzkoppe are a group of bald granite peaks forming one of Namibia’s most recognizable and dramatic landmarks.


Day Itinerary

Today your journey takes you on an interesting drive to the well-known Spitzkoppe, a group of bald granite peaks more than 120 million years old located on the edge of the Namib Desert. Here you can see birds like the Martial Eagle, Pale-winged Starling, Bokmakierie, Kori Bustard, Black-chested Snake Eagle, Swallow-tailed Bee-eater and Monteiro’s Hornbill, amongst many others.

+ Day 6 - Epupa Falls | Hobatere Lodge

Etosha West hosts numerous waterholes attracting elephant, rhino, leopard, lion, a variety of buck, and around 300 bird species.


Day Itinerary

Your journey takes you north towards the western edge of Etosha National Park and home to a number of Namibia’s unique and uncommon birds. These include the African Gray Hornbill and the Bare-cheeked Babbler, as well as Verreaux’s Eagle-owl, Rockrunner, Ruppell’s Parrot, Red-billed Buffalo-weaver, and Violet Wood-hoopoe.

Day Itinerary

Today you travel northwards to the lodge situated on the bank of the Kunene River which forms the north-western border between Angola and Namibia. Yet another birding hotspot where you can see Cinderella Waxbill, Rufous-tailed Palm-thrush, Hartlaub’s spurfowl, Monteiro’s hornbill, Madagascar Bee-eater, Rüppell’s Parrot, Grey Kestrel, White-tailed Shrike, Bare-cheeked Babbler and Chestnut Weaver.

Day Itinerary

Today your journey takes you back down to Etosha into the formerly restricted western side of the park with prolific birdlife including, Carp’s Tit, Goshawks and eight species of owl which can be spotted after sunset. The vultures that visit Etosha include lapped-faced, white-backed and hooded vultures.

With no fewer than 15 waterholes in the surrounding area, Dolomite Camp presents great wildlife viewing opportunities. Specially arranged Game drives, operated by knowledgeable guides, take you to parts of the Park previously only known to Conservationists.

Day Itinerary

Today you head towards the center of the park where more than 300 avian species have been identified.
All the way from the little sociable weaver to the flightless Ostrich. You’ve got a good chance of seeing Raptors, Owls, Kingfishers, and Lilac-breasted Rollers. As well as Rosy-faced lovebirds, African Fish-Eagle, the smallest of Sparrows, and many more indigenous species.
