Introduction

This midrange self-drive takes you to the highlights of Namibia to those must-see destinations that any first trip should include.

+ Day 1 - Windhoek | Villa Vista Guesthouse
Windhoek

The cosmopolitan city of Windhoek situated in the centre of the country is home to a wide variety of restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and accommodation options.


Day Itinerary

When you arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport you are met by the car rental company representative who transfers you to Windhoek. Upon arrival at the car rental the friendly rental agent then takes you through the car rental contract as well as explain all the rental conditions. You are then conducted a thorough demonstration of the vehicle before you depart to your guesthouse in the city.

Villa Vista is an upmarket family owned and managed guesthouse situated in a quiet neighbourhood close to the Windhoek city centre. Looking out over the garden, swimming pool, town, western mountains and afternoon sunsets, the open terrace offers a romantic and peaceful experience.

+ Day 2 - Sossusvlei | Desert Hills Lodge
Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei is located in the scenic Namib-Naukluft National Park and is famous for its red sand dunes rising to almost 400 metres which are some of the highest in the world. With its clear blue skies contrasting against the giant red dunes this breathtaking destination is quite likely Namibia’s premier attraction. Have an adventure and climb ‘Big Daddy’, one of Sossusvlei’s tallest dunes; explore Deadvlei, a white, salt, claypan dotted with ancient trees; or for the more discerning, hot air balloon flights are available, followed by a once-in-a-lifetime champagne breakfast in these majestic dunes.


Day Itinerary

Today you drive into the Namib Desert, towards Sesriem, the entrance to the world-famous Namib Naukluft Park which is home to the magical Sossusvlei and Dead Valley. You will arrive in the afternoon when it is normally too hot to go to the dunes, but the sparkling swimming pool at your lodge makes up for this. Have a dip in the cold water!

Desert Hills Lodge is located only 35 km from Sesriem, the gateway to Sossusvlei, the magical dune landscape.

Day Itinerary

Arrange with your lodge for breakfast packs to take away with you today while you depart early to drive to Sesriem, the entrance to the dunes at Sossusvlei. You will go all the way to the 4×4 car parking area from where you explore the dunes at Sossusvlei as well as Dead Valley, on foot.
Sesriem Canyon can be visited on your way out of the park as this is located towards the gate.

+ Day 4 - Swakopmund | Swakopmund Luxury Suites

The seaside town of Swakopmund is nestled along Namibia’s awe-inspiring scenic coast and is known for its pedestrian-friendly walkways, German architecture, and the surrounding magical desert terrain. Swakopmund is adventure capital of the Skeleton Coast tourism area and has something to keep every visitor delighted. Visitors can look forward to various adrenalin-filled activities including quad biking, horse riding, paragliding, fishing, sightseeing, boat cruises, and fascinating 4×4 desert tours.


Day Itinerary

Today you travel via the town of Solitaire on the C14 where you can stop for some famous apple pie, before you proceed towards the coastal town of Swakopmund, your home for the next two nights.

Swakopmund, known as the adventure capital of Namibia where you can enjoy some of the many activities on offer, including boat cruises with seals and dolphins, desert tours with 4×4 to Sandwich Harbour, a former whaling station, or to explore the Little Five which hide in the desert.

+ Day 6 - Twyfelfontein | Camp Kipwe
Twyfelfontein

Twyfelfontein is a spectacularly scenic area, featuring one of the largest and most important concentrations of rock art in Africa, the Twyfelfontein World Heritage Site. The name ‘Twyfelfontein’ literally means ‘Fountain of Doubt’, named so because of the perennial spring situated in the impressive Huab Valley surrounded by the slopes of a sandstone table mountain.


Day Itinerary

Proceed to the north-western area of Namibia known as Damaraland which is home to some of most diverse landscapes and geological attractions. Keep an eye open for the elusive desert-dwelling elephants who have adapted to the dry and sandy conditions of this terrain.

Accommodation: Camp Kipwe

Camp Kipwe is an intimate and remote bush lodge located in Namibia’s arid yet starkly beautiful Twyfelfontein region, home to many ancient rock etchings.
Camp Kipwe offers guided nature walks around the Twyfelfontein Conservancy, as well as trips to see the rock etchings, the mysterious Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain. For a very special experience, an Elephant Nature Drive is a must-do.

+ Day 7 - Etosha | Safarihoek Lodge
Etosha

Right outside the south-western border of Etosha National Park you find Etosha Heights Private Reserve set in an enthralling landscape home to a great variety of flora and fauna. Explore the vast reserve on a game drive which offer the chance to see kudu, lion and the elusive mountain zebra (in the hills) and sable, black-faced impala, giraffe, aardvark, elephant and many more (around the waterholes).


Day Itinerary

Travel towards Etosha National Park today to your lodge, situated close to the world-famous Okaukuejo Resort.

Accommodation: Safarihoek Lodge

Safarihoek Lodge is located on Etosha Heights Private Game Reserve and is part of a 60,000ha reserve which shares borders, for about 65kms, with Etosha National Park. With an array of animals which include various species of antelope, predators, birds as well as others. Guests can be assured their time spent at Safarihoek Lodge will make for an interesting and memorable safari.

+ Day 8 - Etosha | Onguma Bush Camp
Etosha

Situated east of Etosha, bordering Fisher’s Pan, Onguma Game Reserve is one of Namibia’s best-kept secrets. The reserve offers visitors the opportunity to experience Africa in all her beauty and diversity. Onguma Game Reserve features over 34000 hectares of protected land scattered with a variety of wildlife including plains game, black rhino, kudu, giraffe, zebra, lion, cheetah, leopard and more than 300 bird species.


Day Itinerary

Travel through the park from Okaukuejo towards Namutoni on the east, game driving as you go. Your lodge for the last two nights is situated on the eastern edge of Etosha National Park.

Onguma Bush Camp, situated just outside the eastern gate of the park, is ideally located to explore Etosha National Park. The new water-level hide will provide hours of game viewing opportunities for guests.

This morning you can do a last game drive inside the park before leaving Etosha and heading back to Windhoek .
You drop your vehicle off at the rental car company and their transfer takes you back to the airport in -time for your outbound flight.
